A non-specialized reading tutor takes a reactive approach to teaching by correcting students' mistakes and providing the correct answers. This however does not foster the independent lifelong reading skills a specialized reading tutor provides.
• A specialized reading tutor has an advanced college degree in Literacy from an accredited graduate program
• It is highly recommended that the reading tutor would be a certified teacher with numerous years of experience
• A specialized reading tutor can teach students to read in half the time of other non-specialized tutors, because they have a repertoire of skills to use based upon the specific needs of each child
